Physical Science
In this class, the 8th grade students will learn about forces of energy, sound and light, science and technology, and have an introduction to chemistry.
FORCES AND ENERGY
In the Forces and Energy unit, students will be learning about the different kinds of forces and energy we see in various aspects of our lives. This will include learning about motion, forces, machines, energy, thermal energy, electricity, and magnetism.
SOUND AND LIGHT
In this unit, students will be learning about various aspects of sound and light. This includes talking about the characteristics of waves, the nature and properties of sound, electromagnetic waves, reflection/refraction of light and how light is used.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
If we have time toward the end of the year we will look at Science and Technology. This will include learning about what Science is, why Science is important to both society and the individual person, the tools used in Science and how it is integrated with Mathematics, the use of technology in science, how technology impacts both science and society, and the importance of and different types of engineering.
INTRODUCTION TO CHEMISTRY
Students will be introduced to Chemistry in physical science. The students will learn about describing, classifying, and measuring matter, and the different changes that matter can go through. We will then look at each of the states of matter, and how the particles react when there are changes of state. We will follow that up by learning about the periodic table, the elements and how the atoms of elements bond together. To finish up, we will be learning about chemical reactions, and then acids, bases, and solutions.
