Granton Middle School and Granton High School continue to be the leaders in offering a welcoming and supportive environment for students of all backgrounds. Through a commitment to a continuous improvement plan aimed at providing a successful educational experience for all of our students, we have several academic support systems in place for our struggling students.
ZAP “Zeros Aren’t Permitted” - Grades 6-8
Students are assigned to the ZAP program during their lunch period when they have missing work. The students will eat lunch and work on their missing assignments in a supervised setting where students can receive assistance with their work completion.
Structured Study Labs- Grades 6-12
All students are provided a structured study lab during the school day. The result is a personalized learning plan during student study lab time. The plan is based on a balanced assessment system, which may include but is not limited to grades, teacher/parent recommendation, and student achievement on screening and monitoring tests. Students who do not meet expectations will have “intervention” as part of their educational programming during study lab. Intervention includes individual and/or small group instruction and is designed to increase skills in a particular area of need. Those students will continue to be monitored and based on how they progress may be exited from the small group/individual intervention or entered into additional interventions. Students who meet or exceed academic expectations will have opportunities for enrichment and accelerated programming. If students are meeting academic expectations and would like to go somewhere during study lab, and if available, they must make prior arrangements with another teacher in the form of a pass.
NEW for 2017-18—Second Semester!! Math Lab - Grades 6-12
Have a question about math? Need a bit extra help? Absent? Math retake work? –Math Lab is for you! Math lab is open every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during homeroom. Math Lab provides an opportunity for one on one and small group support for all math classes and from our math teachers. Students should request the “Math Lab Pass” from their homeroom teacher and go to math lab (HS Math Room)—they can stay for as little or as long as they need during homeroom!
NEW for 2017-18--Second Semester!! Morning HHC “Homework Help Center” - Grades 6-12
The success of our new-to-first-semester-lunch-time HHC (Homework Help Center) for high school has been tremendous! Students who attend—whether by choice or by teacher and/or PBIS team identification—are seeing an increase in academics, which is a result we can all be proud in! Due to this success, we will be expanding HHC to the morning! AM HHC will be available starting Monday, January 29 and is open for all 6-12 grade students.
Morning (AM) HHC will be available to all secondary students from 7:40-8:00 A.M. in Room 312. AM HHC is designed to meet the needs of our students and is staffed by our faculty. Students are welcome to work on study skills, homework assistance, test retakes, and just about anything they may need assistance with and/or just a place to work. Lunch HHC, Math Lab, and AM HHC--additional opportunities for all our students to be successful!
Homeroom- Grades - 6-12
All students will have a thirty minute homeroom period during the day. When students are not participating in academic career planning during this time, students may have enrichment opportunities available such as the following; College Admissions, ACT Prep, silent reading, homework help, ACT Aspire Prep, AP Course Study Groups, club meetings, social skill development, guest speakers, Math Lab etc.
NEW for 2017-18!! HHC “Homework Help Center” - Grades 9-12
A modification of the ZAP Program, HHC is designed to meet the needs of our high school students. Students are welcome to bring their lunch and work with one of our highly qualified staff on study skills, homework assistance, test retakes, and just about anything our students may need assistance with. Students who meet academic expectations may attend, and students who are not meeting academic expectations are required to attend until those expectations are met.
